Registering for Athletics
Families should register on the Athletic Association web site (https://www.shcacademyaa.com/) for athletics at South Hills Catholic Academy. There are 3 steps to registering:
- If you have not already done so, register your Family on the website (use the register link at the top right corner of this page).
- Add your separate family members. You can include parents, especially any parents that want to volunteer as a Coach or Team Parent.
- Register your student family members for sports.
The Registration Help walks you through the three steps described above for online registration.
If you cannot use the web site, you can download and use a paper registration form (PDF, Word) - one for each athlete. Turn the paper form in at the school office or email it to Rich Unger, Athletic Director (runger@shcacademy.com).
There are two catholic school football programs in the South Hills that take part in the Diocesan league – The South Hills Chargers (Football and Cheer) and the St. Louise Trojans (Football only). Our students at SHCA can choose the program they wish to join – the Chargers or the Trojans.
We ask that you register your child on the SHCA Athletic Association website regardless of which football/cheer program you join. SHCA collects no fees for football – we just must track where our students are playing in the Diocese program. You still must register separately with the Chargers or Trojans.
South Hills Chargers - Registration for the South Hills Chargers football and cheer programs will open in June. If you have questions or need anything clarified, please contact Danielle Prince (daniellemprince@gmail.com). All the instructions about payment and physicals will be in the actual registration form itself. Equipment pickup will be towards the end of July.
St. Louise Trojans - Registration for St. Louise Trojan football is now open and here is the link to the registration form: https://registration.teamsnap.com/form/6219. You can fine general information abolut the program here - Football - St. Louise de Marillac School. Here is a link to a PFD with important dates and other information, liike equipmet distribution and practices - Important Dates. Here is a link to the Program in A Nutshell Fact Sheet. If you have questions or need anything clarified, please contact Joseph Luvara (jluvara@dmclaw.com, 412-398-5600).
St. Louise de Marillac school offers spring baseball and softball leagues:
- If SHCA has enough players to fill a team at a grade level, they can have their own team in the league, with a parent of one of the players coaching
- If SHCA does not have enough players for their own teams, they can still play on other teams in the St. Louise Baseball/Softball Organization
- St. Louise Baseball/Softball Organization handles everything - uniforms, schedules, etc.
If you have any questions, please contact stlouisebaseball@gmail.com. All practices and home games are played at St. Louise de Marillac Church Fields. Their website is https://tshq.bluesombrero.com/Default.aspx?tabid=1925317
When registration opens, usually in January, you can register HERE. We also ask that you register your child on the SHCA Athletic Association website. SHCA collects no fees for baseball or softball – we just track where our students are playing in Diocese programs. You still must register separately with the St. Louise de Marillac Baseball/Softball Program.
Students are allowed to take part in multiple sports during a season. For example, a 6th grade girl can potentially register for Girls Volleyball, Soccer and Cross Country for the Fall season.
While the Athletic Association tries to minimize overlapping practice times for the multiple sports offered during a season that is not always possible with restrictions on access to fields and gyms, not to mention the availability of coaches.
Also, the Athletic Association has no control over when the various leagues will schedule games, meets and matches.
Please keep this in mind when you register your children for sports. Make sure they can commit to being at the practices and events for the sports they sign up for.
You can pay any Athletic Fees online on your Family page. The payment button appears when you owe an athletic fee. There is a processing fee added to your athletic fee to cover the costs of online payment processing through PayPal.
If you wish, you can pay by cash or check at the school office to avoid the processing fee. Make checks payable to "South Hills Catholic Academy Athletics" and include "Athletics Registration" on the check. Also include the full name of the athletes you are paying for on the check.
You can make partial payments of the athletic fee through the course of the sports season. All payments must be up to date by the end of the school year.
Once you make a payment, whether online using PayPal or by check, please allow time for the Athletic Association to verify your payment and update your Family page on this site with your latest athletic fee information. This may take as long as 7-10 business days.
To take part in any sport the school office must have the child's current Medical Release (PDF, Word) form. This does not apply to the "Little" sports and Spirit Squad.
In general, registrations are open before the start of each sports season - Fall, Winter and Spring.
Fielding a team for a particular sport depends on having enough volunteer coaches. For some teams (basketball, volleyball), a Team Parents is also required. Also, if enough students do not register for a sport to field a team, or if there is no Head Coach or Team Parent, the Athletic Association will make every effort to place the students who did register on a team at a nearby school. * indicates that the team participates in a Diocese of Pittsburgh sanctioned sports league.

- When online payment of athletic fees is available there will be a payment button on your family page. Once the sports season begins (games are played) there can be no refund for athletic fees paid.
A SHCA students' involvement in athletics requires parents or guardians to volunteer as needed - along with all other families taking part in the athletic program. Volunteering includes working at home games collecting entrance fees, running concessions, selling raffles, etc.
Each team at the school also must have a volunteer to serve as Team Parent to coordinate all volunteer activities for the team. Here is a document that describes the Role of the Team Parent.
In addition, here is a document that describes Coach and Parent Duties at SHCA Volleyball and Basketball Games.
